Work with an expert, or leave your tree in expert hands.
There are two easy ways to get professional help with your bonsai. Roll up your sleeves in a hands-on private session, or drop your tree off and let our team do the work. Either way, you're working with people who love this craft.
Two ways to get expert help. Pick what fits your tree.
The two paths are different, so start with the one that matches what you need.
Private Bonsai Sessions
Stay with your tree and work side by side with a pro. You'll get instruction and hands-on help based on your experience, your goals, and the work we can reasonably complete in your time.
- Tree evaluation and care recommendations
- Pruning, styling, wiring, and repotting techniques
- Pest and disease identification
Professional Bonsai Services
Prefer to hand it off? Drop your tree with us, and our team completes the approved work while it stays in our care.

- Seasonal repotting and root work
- Advanced techniques or pest treatment when appropriate
Book one-on-one time with a bonsai professional.
Bring your own tree. Choose a preferred instructor when booking, or select no preference and we'll assign the best person for your goals and your tree.

Clean, pest-free trees only
Trees must arrive clean and free from pests. We may decline to work on a tree that appears unhealthy, has pests or disease, or isn't suited to the requested work.
Bonsai work is seasonal.
Not every tree can or should be worked on at every time of year. Certain techniques, such as repotting, heavy pruning, major styling, or work on specific species, may need to wait until the correct season.
Trees also need to be healthy enough for the work being requested. If your tree is weak, stressed, newly repotted, recently shipped, declining, or recovering from pests or watering issues, your session may focus on diagnosis, care, recovery, and a future plan rather than immediate styling or repotting.
Our goal is to do what is best for the tree, not just complete a task because an appointment was booked.
Don't have a tree?
You can still book a private session. If you don't have a tree, we can turn your session into a small private mini-workshop. This is a great option for individuals, couples, friends, or family members who want a hands-on bonsai experience.
- Up to two people may work together on one tree during the session
- A two-hour minimum (two one-hour sessions) is required for this format
- The session fee covers instruction time only; the tree, pot, soil, wire, and other supplies are charged separately

Styling and Restyling
Professional pruning, branch selection, wiring, and design work to establish or improve your tree's structure and appearance.
Repotting
Seasonal repotting and root work based on your tree's species, condition, soil, pot, and the right repotting window.
Carving, Grafting, Jin, and Shari
Advanced work, done when it's right for your tree and the design or horticultural goal.
Pest and Disease Treatment
Evaluation and treatment of visible pest or disease concerns. Some cases need more than one treatment or follow-up care.
Every tree is different. We inspect yours and give you a written estimate before any work begins. Materials are charged separately unless your estimate includes them.
From drop-off to pickup, here's how it works.
Clear steps so you always know what's next.
A note about living trees
Bonsai are living plants. How they respond to pruning, repotting, treatment, and other work can be affected by species, age, health, previous care, pests, disease, weather, and more. We do every job using sound, professional horticultural practices. We can't guarantee specific results, recovery, continued health, or survival, but we'll always give your tree our best care and honest guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Not sure which option fits? Reach out and we'll help you decide.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. Private sessions, service drop-offs, and pickups are all by appointment, so your tree always has our full attention.
What should I bring to a private session?
Bring your own tree. Workspace and shared tools are provided. Wire, soil, pots, treatments, and other materials are charged separately.
How long will my tree stay for professional services?
Timing depends on the service, your tree's condition, the season, and staff availability. Service trees stay at least one week, and some work needs a month or longer.
Can you work on a tree I didn't buy from Bonsai Outlet?
Yes. As long as it arrives clean, healthy, and pest free, we're happy to work on trees from anywhere.
